About the Name

Alpenglow refers to an optical phenomenon that occurs just after sunset in the mountains. Alpine faces and ridges are illuminated by sunlight reflected off particles in the upper atmosphere. The result is alpenglow, an orange-ish glow that makes the alpine peaks stand out in the sky.
